Annual Physicals in Douglasville, GA

A yearly physical is the single most effective tool for catching problems before they become serious. Dr. Desai's annual exams are thorough, unhurried, and built around your actual health history.

It's easy to let a year — or three — slip by without a physical, especially when you feel fine. But many of the conditions primary care is best at catching, like hypertension, prediabetes, and elevated cholesterol, produce no symptoms until they've been quietly progressing for years. An annual physical is where that gets caught early, while it's still easy to treat.

What's Included in an Annual Physical

A complete annual physical at West Atlanta Primary Care includes a head-to-toe physical exam, review of vital signs including blood pressure and weight trends over time, updated bloodwork tailored to your age and risk factors (typically a comprehensive metabolic panel, lipid panel, and blood glucose or HbA1c), a full medication review to check for interactions or outdated prescriptions, a review of your vaccination status, and a conversation about any symptoms, concerns, or lifestyle changes since your last visit. We also use this visit to discuss and order any age-appropriate cancer screenings you may be due for.

Sports and Employment Physicals

If you need a physical for work clearance, a sports participation form, or a school requirement, we handle these efficiently alongside — or separate from — a full wellness exam. Bring any required paperwork with you, and let our front desk know when scheduling so we can allow adequate time and have the right forms ready.

How Often Should Adults Get a Physical?

Most healthy adults benefit from an annual physical every year, though the right interval depends on your age and risk factors. Adults managing a chronic condition like diabetes or hypertension are typically seen more frequently — often every three to six months — to monitor and adjust treatment. If it's been more than a year since your last comprehensive exam, you're due.

What to Bring to Your Appointment

Please bring a valid photo ID, your current insurance card, a list of medications and supplements you're taking (or the bottles themselves), and any relevant records from other providers if this is your first visit with us. Arriving ten minutes early gives our front desk time to get you checked in without rushing.

Covered by Most Insurance Plans

Annual physicals are typically covered at no out-of-pocket cost under the preventive care benefit of most commercial and Medicare insurance plans. If any bloodwork or additional testing is ordered based on findings during your visit, that may be billed separately depending on your specific plan — our staff can help you understand your coverage before your visit.
